IOI Chile offered the 3rd International Seminar titled: “Oceans, Sustainability and Environment”, 4 November, Santiago, Chile

For the third consecutive year, the International Seminar titled “Oceans, Sustainability and Environment” was held at the campus Providencia of the Universidad Autonoma de Chile, and was organised by IOI Chile in collaboration with the Universidad Autonoma de Chile and the Instituto de Investigacion en Derecho of the Law School. 

 

Speakers included Ambassador Maria Teresa Infante, Member of the ITLOS; Dr Zulima Sánchez, from the University of Salamanca; and Chilean Navy Captain Matías Sifón; as well as scientist Camila Calderón-Quirgas, specialised in whale and marine mammals’ conservation. Antonella Vassallo, Managing Director IOI,  delivered the opening speech by video followed by a welcoming speech by Dr Nicolás Ojeda, Director, IOI Chile, member of the organising committee and moderator of one of the panels.

 

The seminar was open for students, academics, professionals, and the general public. It provided an opportunity to learn about developments and share international experiences in Ocean Governance and Sustainability, consolidating these events as an important forum to discuss issues like the protection of the marine environment, technology and the ocean, and current and future developments in the law of the sea.
