Learning outcomes

Explain the concept of Ocean Literacy:

  • Show different educational projects and their implementation;
  • Demonstrate the relevance of ocean literacy in  citizens education.

Learn about the  the painter Joaquín Sorolla’s life:

  • Analyse some paintings about Valencia beaches;
  • Identify the people who are on the beach;
  • Find moments of happiness and hardship in Sorolla's work;
  • Discover the play of light and shadow. 

Define nautical tourism:

  • Identify the different services provided;
  • Understand its relevance to national tourism;
  • Discover how nautical tourism can contribute to the protection and preservation of the ocean. 

Understand the relationship between the ocean and humanity: 

  • Be aware that we know only a tiny part of the ocean;
  • Understand the difference between sea and ocean;
  • Understand the phenomenon of climate change and its threats;
  • Identify positive and negative warnings;
  • Become aware of our behaviors and how they impact the ocean.

Have a diachronic view of the evolution of lighthouses over time:

  • Understand how they work;
  • Recognize their importance in maritime navigation;
  • Understand its importance in the history of Portuguese maritime navigation.

Get an overview of Brazilian ocean policy:

  • Characterise and recognise the importance of the Atlantic Triad;
  • Learn about the relationship between Portugal and Brazil;

Learn about the history of the two ships: Angoche and Bolama:

  • Briefly describe the ships;
  • Understand the context and the most important facts of their tragedy;the attack on the Angoche and the sinking of the Bolama;
  • Recognise that their stories are built on facts and theories about the unknown.

Know the Textile Regulation:

  • Recognise the impact of textiles on our lives;
  • Understand their impact on ocean life;

Recognise the ocean as the sea routes of antiquity:

  • Understand the circumstances of the great maritime development in the 15th century;
  • Identify the major maritime routes of the 15th and 16th centuries and their importance.
