IOI Canada offered the 18th annual Elisabeth Mann Borgese Ocean Lecture featuring a panel discussion on "Small-Scale Fisheries: Food Security, Social Justice and Biodiversity". A Professional Development Day (PD) focusing on Ocean Literacy for Teachers was held in October, building upon the success of an earlier event in March by IOI Canada.

After a summer when climate change took on a new urgency in Nova Scotia with destructive forest fires, fatal flooding and record coastal ocean temperatures, IOI Canada's 17th annual Elisabeth Mann Borgese Ocean Lecture on 28th September focused on A Framework for Ocean-Climate Action.

After a two-year COVID hiatus, IOI Canada was excited to hold its first in-person event again with the 2022 Elisabeth Mann Borgese Ocean Lecture, organised in celebration of IOI’s 50th anniversary.
