The IOI Egypt Training Centre was formally launched following the signature of the MOU with IOI Egypt host institute NIOF. Congratulations to the IOI Training Centre Director Prof Lamiaa Mohamedein and her fantastic team who add this prestigious programme to the work already done by IOI Egypt in offering the IOI Ocean Academy for Arabic speakers of the region, and more.
The outreach of the IOI Ocean Academy continues to grow with six new nodes now offering courses out of Algeria, Georgia, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, and Tunisia in Arabic, Georgian, Swahili, Spanish, and French respectively.
Convened by the IMO Secretary-General, the 35th anniversary of the establishment of IMLI was commemorated via a seminar entitled “35 Years Serving the Rule of International Maritime Law”. Awni Behnam, Honorary President, represented the IOI at this celebration.
Launched on 8th March, on International Women’s Day, Antonella Vassallo, Managing Director, IOI, was invited to deliver the keynote speech for the webinar inaugurating the Global Women Network for Nature.
IOI HQ representatives met with the Maltese WestMED National Hub contacts; the scope of the meeting was to explore areas of collaboration between WestMED and IOI, especially because ‘improved maritime governance’ is one of WestMED’s leading goals.
The Junior Scientists Fellowship programme was initiated with the aim of inspiring young minds in the realms of Ocean science and environmental stewardship, and fostering Ocean Literacy amongst school age children.
IOI Maldives Ocean Academy Director, Azmath Jaleel, attended this conference where he was invited to share his extensive experience on employment and income opportunities in the maritime industry focused on the Maldives, as a contributor to the region’s Blue Economy.
