IOI Egypt successfully delivered its first Ocean Governance Training Programme in November 2024. This milestone programme marked a significant step in advancing sustainable ocean governance in the region, also since it was the first IOI Ocean governance training programme to be offered completely in the Arabic language.
The Managing Director of IOI attended COP29 in Baku, advocating for the transformative power of Ocean and Climate Literacy to bridge the gap between knowledge, behaviour, and action, while empowering communities and policymakers to address climate change and safeguard ocean health.
This year’s IOI Special Seminar, also the fourth offering in the annual IOI Alumni CPD series, highlighted the urgent need to move beyond rhetoric and foster actionable solutions for the Ocean. The interactive format brought together experts, policymakers, and young ocean professionals, to consider and address the disconnect between global Ocean goals and effective implementation, and the potential actions and good practices that are needed for a sustainable future for our global Ocean.
As another successful edition of the IOI Malta Training Programme concludes, the IOI remains steadfast in its mission to empower the next generation of ocean leaders through education, capacity building, and innovative approaches to ocean governance.
The IOI South Africa Training Centre’s Ocean Governance Training Programme continues to strengthen regional collaboration and capacity-building efforts, empowering participants with the knowledge and skills to address pressing marine and coastal challenges.
This Online Ocean Governance Course was organised and offered by IOI Germany and the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) as part of their and IOI’s joint commitment to developing capacity among Early Career Ocean Professionals.
Organised with the support of Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, Stockholm University, AquaBiotech Group, Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Blue Economy at the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI), International Ocean Institute, and IOC-UNESCO OceanTeacher Global Academy.
The third International Seminar “Oceans, Sustainability and Environment” was organised by IOI Chile in collaboration with IOI Chile host institute, the Universidad Autonoma de Chile, and the Instituto de Investigacion en Derecho of the Law School, at the Campus Providencia, 4 November, Santiago, Chile.
IOI Canada offered the 18th annual Elisabeth Mann Borgese Ocean Lecture featuring a panel discussion on "Small-Scale Fisheries: Food Security, Social Justice and Biodiversity". A Professional Development Day (PD) focusing on Ocean Literacy for Teachers was held in October, building upon the success of an earlier event in March by IOI Canada.
