This year’s IOI Special Seminar, also the fourth offering in the annual IOI Alumni CPD series, highlighted the urgent need to move beyond rhetoric and foster actionable solutions for the Ocean. The interactive format brought together experts, policymakers, and young ocean professionals, to consider and address the disconnect between global Ocean goals and effective implementation, and the potential actions and good practices that are needed for a sustainable future for our global Ocean.
The third International Seminar “Oceans, Sustainability and Environment” was organised by IOI Chile in collaboration with IOI Chile host institute, the Universidad Autonoma de Chile, and the Instituto de Investigacion en Derecho of the Law School, at the Campus Providencia, 4 November, Santiago, Chile.
Distinguished experts examined how knowledge-based institutions such as the IOI can contribute to achieving effective solutions that meet the global SDGs and ambitions, while also considering the role that Ocean literate communities can play in accelerating this transition.
The event was open for students, academics, professionals, and the general public, and provided an important venue to learn about developments and international experiences. Based on the success of the first Seminar, more events of this kind are planned within Chile as well as further collaborations.
